Shelby Shaffer is the owner and upholsterer behind Shaffer Upholstery. He started with an education from WyoTech where he got his certification in automotive collision repair in 2006. He took a couple classes that taught auto upholstery, and the rest is history. For over 18 years Shelby has been creating custom interiors, and he’s continually working and fine tuning his skills in order to create high end and high quality work. Shelby’s upholstery has been featured in a number of national car shows, motorcycle shows, publications, and TV shows.

When he isn’t sewing, he enjoys going on adventures with his wife and their dog, working on his 1964 Ford pickup, and you can usually find him at local car shows with his car club throughout the summer. As a hobby, he puts his sewing skills to use by making custom sneakers for his family and friends.

ABOUT THE OWNER

ABOUT THE TEAM

Meaghan | Upholstery Technician

Meaghan is the other upholstery technician at the shop. Born in Oregon, she discovered her passion for sewing and upholstery early on and pursued it professionally by attending the upholstery program at Mobile Tech in New Jersey in 2018. Since then, she’s been honing her craft in both automotive and furniture upholstery, with a keen eye for detail and a dedication to quality work. Outside the shop, Meaghan enjoys making handmade goods such as bags and other crafts, catching live music shows, and spending time outdoors hiking with her dog, Blue. We’re lucky to have such a talented tech at our shop!

Kayla | Apprentice

Kayla started her apprenticeship here in July 2025, where she’s quickly proving herself with a keen eye for craftsmanship and a drive to learn about the trade. When she’s not in the shop, she’s competing on the race track as part of Chick Flicks, a competitive all-female drift team. She’s also a textile specialist, and makes custom rugs and floor mats in her spare time. Kayla brings the same focus and energy to drifting as she does to her work, balancing her passion for cars both inside and outside the shop.

Larry Shaffer | Customer Service/Good Boy

Larry, the beloved shop dog at Shaffer Auto Upholstery, is an essential member of the team and, really, the heart of the shop. Rescued from South Korea by Shelby and Katherine through Golden Bond Rescue, Larry has been living his best life ever since. These days, he takes his job very seriously—welcoming customers, keeping morale high, and ensuring everyone takes a moment to relax. When he’s not on greeting duty, you’ll find him lounging in his favorite sunny spot, keeping an eye on the day’s projects like the true professional he is.

OUR PROCESS

  1. Schedule a time to bring your vehicle or project in for a free estimate. We’ll go over any issues you’re having, and get a clear picture of what you want and what your expectations are. We can talk about materials, look at material samples, go over design ideas, and a timeline as well.

  2. Schedule a date to drop off your vehicle. At the time of scheduling we will take a deposit so we can get materials on order.

  3. Drop off your vehicle. When you drop your vehicle off we will do a vehicle check in, and go over the letter of agreement with you. We’ll also go over the design and materials with you again, and an overall plan for the work to be done.

  4. The upholstery begins. All of your materials should be at the shop by the time you drop your car off. If for any reason there are any delays or issues, we will contact you with updates throughout the process.

  5. Pick up your vehicle or project and pay the remaining balance. Shelby will go over all of the work that was done with you, and you’ll get to enjoy your new upholstery.
